Wanted Movie

June 26, 2008 at 3:38 pm (Box Office)

I want to see WANTED tomorrow.  Angelina + Assassin Role + Guns = HAWT!  Oh yeah, and James McAvoy (“Nee-kohl-ahs! You deed not perrrr-swaaaaade me!!!”) is in it too.  Maybe we’ll drive out to WV and shoot some guns afterwards to get all our aggression out.  In related news, DC can keep their guns.

Six Feet Under

June 26, 2008 at 3:30 pm (Tuned In) ()

I just watched Season 1, disc 1 last week and I love this show already!  I know, I’m very late to get on this bandwagon.  It has all the elements: 1) dysfunctional family, 2) unique (and creepy!) profession, 3) gay guys, 4) sick humor.  No wonder Michael C. Hall was cast as Dexter.  I love it!  I was shocked to learn that his character is gay, but it all adds to the dramz.  Can’t wait to watch the whole series!

R.I.P. Mr. Russert

June 14, 2008 at 4:20 pm (Tuned In) ()

I was shocked to read the sad sad news of Tim Russert’s passing.  Sometimes you never realize how much you care about someone until they are gone.  My news outlet of choice is MSNBC and he always provided a clear explanation of all things politics; he filtered the fluff and revealed the truth.   He will be sorely missed.

Flix

June 12, 2008 at 10:40 pm (Box Office)

Some movies I’ve just seen:

‘Away From Her’ - I liked it. Julie Christie looks great. I don’t know how old she is but she is definitely aging beautifully.   I don’t think her performance as Fiona, which garnered her a Golden Globe for best actress, was as riveting as Marion Cotilliard’s in “La Vie en Rose” but it was good nonetheless.  It’s interesting how no matter how old one is, one is still capable of playing games and holding grudges.  I guess you just learn to hide it better as you get older.  For some reason you’d think the elderly are all nice, sweet people but they carry just as much or more spite and resentment as any other person can.

‘Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance’ – This is a korean movie made by the same director as ‘Oldboy.’ Yeah, same weird stuff but no incest in this one.  Just as much blood though.  If you’re a ‘Hostel’ or ‘Saw’ fan then this is probably for you.  Not my cup of tea, but I like how some Korean films have gotten gritty and unpredictable.

‘Charlie Wilson’s War’ – Didn’t believe Tom Hanks in this role as a Texan but after seeing a photo of the real Charlie Wilson, they do kind of look alike.  The movie takes place around the time I was born (1980) and it was interesting to see the decor during that time.  Ugly!  Based on a true story, so I liked it.

‘Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired’ (HBO doc) -  This aired Monday night and I saw it right away.  I’ve heard of this story but never really got the deets.  After watching this, there’s so much more to it than I originally thought.  Yes, he did some shady stuff but this guy seemed to have some shitty luck.  I can’t really blame him for fleeing after all the BS going with the case.   One my favorite movies, “The Ninth Gate”, was directed by Roman Polanski.  I haven’t seen Rosemary’s Baby yet, gotta put that on my queue.

Hodge Podge Bagosh

June 11, 2008 at 7:21 pm (Judy-isms, Pennsyltucky, Sexy Time) (, )

It’s only Wednesday, hmph.  Two more days ’til a week of vacay!  I think I’ll head up to PA on Sunday night and then head east to Philly, then to Dirty Jersey from Monday through whenever.  Girls only retreat, G and me!  It should be fun times.

I made an appointment to get my hair did on Saturday which reminds me that I have to go see ”Don’t Mess with the Zohan.”  When I first saw the trailer for that movie I immediately thought of my colorist/hair stylist.  I swear the movie must be based on him because he, like Zohan, is from Israel and both have the same accent.   I’ve never seen his feet move like Zohan’s though. LOL

I can’t stop eating brie and crackers with jam.  I crave it everyday and I’m eating some right now.

Gas is $4+! I’m sure you’re aware.  I remember when I was 16, back in ‘96, I’d fill up the Mercury Mistake one gallon at a time cuz I was broke.  I would have to scrounge up $0.99 to get me around for a short while.  Kids today have to come up with $4.50.   But I’m sure they’d give me the same ‘whatever’ look I gave my uncle when he used to tell me how much gas prices were back in the 50’s.

My computer at work is ill.  No virus, just a memory problem.  Mental illness you could say.  I boot it up but it just gives me a blue screen with a bunch of jibberish on it.  I called the doc (Dr. NerdBoy) and he checked it out.  He wrote up his diagnosis and his treatment recommendation on his ‘chart’.  Charged $125 for the hour-long visit and prescribed a higher dose of memory.  If the problem persists, I’m told, I should format the disk and re-install XP.   It feels good knowing that computer healthcare is so easily accessible.

I transferred my credits from MC to UMUC and I have 51 more credits to go.  That’s another two full years; nine credits each during Fall and Spring, and six in the summers, plus three more somewhere in between.  FUCK.  That means I might have to start back up as early as next month.  When I tell people I’m still in school, the first reaction is, “graduate school?”  Uh, no. I say undergraduate, and then the next reaction is, “damn you’re young!”  I just nod my head and let it be.  I am whatever you say I am!

Tornay-do, Tornah-do

June 5, 2008 at 7:32 pm (le District) ()

What is going on with the weather!  Tornados were spotted in multiple areas yesterday, mostly in Virginia.  I read on MSNBC local news that one was spotted near White Oak, which is right down the street from my work.  A person was injured and one died from fallen trees.  Scary stuff.  Signals were out this morning on my commute to work but now they’re working, thankfully.

Glad to see the weather has calmed down today but now I’m bracing for 90+ degree weather in the next few days.  I think I’ll either stay in or by the pool all weekend.  Sweating makes me cranky.
