Fitness Journal
I walked/ran a little over two miles on Monday before my step class for about 35 minutes. Yesterday I did three miles in 50 minutes. My left calf was killing me all week. I just found out it was because my shoe was tied too tight! At one point I couldn’t feel my pinky toe.
I like doing walking/running intervals rather than jogging at a steady pace continuously. Maybe it’s because I’m too out of shape to jog continuously! The sucky thing is I haven’t lost any weight. I can feel my blubber firming up so maybe I have to build some muscle first then burn the excess fat. I’ve heard that changing my diet will drop the pounds. My last weigh in was 123.6 lbs. I want to go the Crescent Trail but it’s too cold outside. I was thinking about trying a 5K this spring or fall. We’ll see…
Clusterf*ck to the Poor House: Jurrious Edition
I just finished reading this and now I know for sure getting a new job is going to be pretty much impossible these days (unless I want to wash dishes or sell buttons). One percent chance of landing an interview? Sounds about right. I’ve half-heartedly sent out a handful of resumes and got one call back. I think only because I basically copied and pasted the job listing and put an “I have” or “I am” in front of every qualification they required for my cover letter. Finding a job is like finding a boy/girl friend. You find one when you least expect it and the one you’re least attracted to is the one that’s most interested, that is, until you find ”the One”. However, the call-back was a dud. Apparently I am a flight risk because I am from PA and I got the feeling they didn’t want to take a chance on me in case I move back there one day. And this is after I said, “I have lived in the DC area for eight years and do not plan to move in the near future.” The last person to hold the position re-located so I guess they didn’t want it to happen again. Whatever. I already work for one paranoid boss; I don’t want to work for another. But I did take Penn State off my resume. Who knew it would be a liability?
Well this non-native DeeCee’an is staying far away from DC this weekend. A part of me wishes I would get laid off so I can go backpacking in Europe while getting unemployment checks…. Is that wrong?
Egg Donor
I was perusing Craigslist today and looking under etc. jobs to see if there were some ways I can make some extra dough. I could be a nanny…nah. Sell buttons on Inauguration Day? Uh, no thanks. Clean houses for rich people in Potomac….hell to the no. ASIAN EGG DONOR WANTED. Hmmmm.. I’m intrigued. Usually they want the Barbie-looking types so this was interesting. Prospective donors must have some college education, be taller than 4′10″, have a body mass index less than 32, known family history, be attractive, and have not used illegal drugs, smoked cigarettes, or taken anti-depressants in the past year. Compensation was listed as $8,500 which sounds really low. Isn’t it usually like $20 G’s? Oh yeah, we’re in a recession so eggs must be on sale, too. I filled out an initial questionnaire to see how much I could get and didn’t qualify off the bat. My family has a history of colon cancer in more than one family member so my eggs are not worthy. Would you sell your gametes for $$?
Fitness
Friday I did three miles on the treadmill at my “home” gym upstairs with the 80’s inspired decor. All you need is a leotard, sweat band, and some leg warmers and you’re set. 50 minutes total, 16.66 min/mile. I actually jogged for at least 1 mile today! I’m so proud of myself. I’ve been on a treadmill more times this past week than in the past three years. Maybe in my whole life. Nine days into ‘09 and I’ve done eleven miles so far. I’m good until Monday.
I found a song that I like to run to; it’s called “Untouched” by The Veronicas. If I put that song on repeat I could run for days. Maybe I can hypnotize myself to run every time that song is on. I want train myself so that if I hear it in a club I’ll just start running like crazy.
Weigh-in: 119.00 lbs. (Truth be told, this was before I ate dinner plus my analog home scale is about 3 lbs off the gym’s digital scale. Actual weight is most likely 122 or 123.)
