Day One

Happy New Year! I started off 2009 eating like it was my last day on earth. Puff pastries, cream dips, pizza, and meatballs! Plus cake that I named the “Homer Simpson Donut” that was soooo yummy (see photo above). Sooo delicious, but I have to say good-bye. I can’t be eating like that anymore. No more Popeyes, McDonald’s…. ugh. I can’t completely say goodbye to korean BBQ though. The little piggy in me needs her poke bellies!
For New Year’s Day, F, M, and I went to Regal to catch a double feature. We saw Seven Pounds and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, back to back. Seven Pounds was better than I thought, given the so-so reviews I’ve heard. I teared up and sniffed many times. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson were lovely together. You know someone loves you when they fix your old machinery. Benjamin Button was also good, but I thought it’d be better since it got a lot more positive reviews. Maybe it was because I was into hour number four during the heart of it or maybe it was the length overall, and it reminded me too much of Forrest Gump. I liked the beginning much more than the end. Based on the previews, I want to see Revolutionary Road and Gran Torino next. Soloist also looks promising (with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx), but looks very “August Rush”-y, which is not a bad thing.
I was debating whether to stay home and watch the Rose Bowl or go to the movies. Thank god I didn’t stay home because I would have been salty all night after watching Penn State basically assume the fetal position after the first half (I recorded it and watched it after I got home). I wonder what all the hooplah was about. After all these years Joe Pa should be used to the media being so fascinated with him. He usually handles the attention with poise and grace but I found his manner a bit unusual this year. I think he took even more attention away from his players by being so fussy about it. I think he should have been down at the sidelines and in the locker room for the game. He’s just a figurehead I guess.
Today is my last official vacation day for the holiday. If the two movies I saw taught me anything, it’s that I should quit my job asap and start fresh and not waste a day of my life doing something I don’t love. I’m almost there…but still not brave enough…. Maybe watching Kate and Leo stuggle in their “resign(ation) from life” in Revolutionary Road will put me over the edge… stay tuned.
Merry Christmas Bitches
Merry Christmas! Happy Festivus!
It doesn’t feel like Christmas. Gifts are skimp. The S.O. and I decided not to exchange gifts (again). Instead we are going to save our pennies and take a trip to our favorite city, NYC, in February. Anniversary, Xmas, V-Day, and my B-day all rolled into one. It’s the economy!
But, we both got a great present for Christmas from one of his co-workers! Her family has season tickets to the ‘Skins and she called on Sunday to offer us the tickets to the last home game.
Here are some pics:

This guy was going back and forth with an Eagles fan wearing a Dawkins jersey. There were two shows going on at once. It was comical.

Section 306, Club Level

This was a fun (cold!) game and it went by so fast, even though at one point both teams were going three and out and punting every time. We were sitting right in front of the Eagles endzone in the fourth quarter when the guy (Brown?) caught the ball at the 1 yard line in the last play of the game. It was amazing to see it right it front of my face and we all knew he didn’t break the plane of the endzone. Pretty exciting stuff. Everyone stayed until the end of the game though so it took an hour and a half to get home. I ran over two beer bottles on the way out! But I loved every minute of it! Well, one thing I hated was the fact that grown men turn into barbaric animals and act like complete assholes. Poor little Eagles fans had to hear all the drunken madness afterwards. But one comment from a ’skins fan did make me laugh. He said, “Eagles suck! They can’t even beat the ’skins!”
The year is almost over and thank goodness for that. This wasn’t a good year, except maybe for sports (Super Bowl, Olympics). 2009 will be better. Trust.
Hope you have a great holiday!
Janet Concert
I went to see Janet Jackson at the Verizon Center on Wednesday night. I’m such a huge fan of hers and this is my first Janet concert! My friend Kathy went to one of her previous concerts and said she wasn’t as nimble. I’m just glad she didn’t cancel on us. She rocks! I had so much fun with Kathy, Liz, and Lavender.

Eff-L-A
Frange and I are planning a trip to Miami in August! Azucar! Is airfare cheap b/c it’s hurricane season? I thought it would be mucho expensivo. I’m at work and I’m out of here in 20 minutes. Happy 4th and don’t let the rain stop you from having fun!
I’ll be mostly holed up inside watching gay Dexter get his groove on. OMG, last night I saw the episode of him AND his mom on ecstacy. HIGH-larious! I love love love that show (Six Feet Under). Maybe I’ll catch some Wimbledon too. Man, I need to get in shape if I’m going to Miami. I’ll start on that Monday…..
Hodge Podge Bagosh
It’s only Wednesday, hmph. Two more days ’til a week of vacay! I think I’ll head up to PA on Sunday night and then head east to Philly, then to Dirty Jersey from Monday through whenever. Girls only retreat, G and me! It should be fun times.
I made an appointment to get my hair did on Saturday which reminds me that I have to go see ”Don’t Mess with the Zohan.” When I first saw the trailer for that movie I immediately thought of my colorist/hair stylist. I swear the movie must be based on him because he, like Zohan, is from Israel and both have the same accent. I’ve never seen his feet move like Zohan’s though. LOL
I can’t stop eating brie and crackers with jam. I crave it everyday and I’m eating some right now.
Gas is $4+! I’m sure you’re aware. I remember when I was 16, back in ‘96, I’d fill up the Mercury Mistake one gallon at a time cuz I was broke. I would have to scrounge up $0.99 to get me around for a short while. Kids today have to come up with $4.50. But I’m sure they’d give me the same ‘whatever’ look I gave my uncle when he used to tell me how much gas prices were back in the 50’s.
My computer at work is ill. No virus, just a memory problem. Mental illness you could say. I boot it up but it just gives me a blue screen with a bunch of jibberish on it. I called the doc (Dr. NerdBoy) and he checked it out. He wrote up his diagnosis and his treatment recommendation on his ‘chart’. Charged $125 for the hour-long visit and prescribed a higher dose of memory. If the problem persists, I’m told, I should format the disk and re-install XP. It feels good knowing that computer healthcare is so easily accessible.
I transferred my credits from MC to UMUC and I have 51 more credits to go. That’s another two full years; nine credits each during Fall and Spring, and six in the summers, plus three more somewhere in between. FUCK. That means I might have to start back up as early as next month. When I tell people I’m still in school, the first reaction is, “graduate school?” Uh, no. I say undergraduate, and then the next reaction is, “damn you’re young!” I just nod my head and let it be. I am whatever you say I am!
Summer ‘08 Has Officially Begun
I had an enjoyable long weekend spending time with friends and family. A good start to what I hope will be a relaxing and fun summer! The festivities began with Francis’ birthday mini-party on Thursday. We ate dinner at Lia’s and then just hung out at home. I got him a carrot cake from Cake Love in Silver Spring. It was good but overpriced, especially for a 6″ size. I think I’ll just stick with the cupcakes if I ever go there again.

Friday and Saturday we hung out with friends in Grosvenor and Cleveland Park, respectively. Sunday morning we headed to Pennsylvania for a BBQ with the fam. We went to a place called Laurel Lake in the Pine Grove area. I remember looking at photos of me being there when I was a little kid. It was beautiful out there and the weather was wonderful. There’s also a mountain spring and the water is so clean. My mom regularly comes up there and takes home jugs and jugs of water.

The food was delish! Francis’ mom also had some galbi ribs marinated but we never got to it unfortunately. There was enough food to feed an army. Later that night we met up with my hometown friends. Fun times as always! Just a little tired and bloated from all that meat-eating and drinking. Sunday we ate some more and then headed back home.
Today I got my pool pass! The management office finally got smart and put each person’s photo on it. Harder to reproduce if you know what I mean ^_~. I think tomorrow I’m going to go browse for bicycles. Time to work on my fitness after two years of sitting on my arse day and night. Maybe I should become one of those people who wake up at 5 am to work out. Hmm…we’ll see. ‘Go big or go home’ right? I think I’ve heard that phrase 100 times in the last month or so and now I’m brainwashed.
SEX AND THE CITY opens Friday! Woot!
The Frick Collection
I love New York City because no matter how many times I’ve been there, it always feels like the first time. This time, we stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania. It is apparently “The World’s Most Popular Hotel.” This may be true but I wonder how many go back for a second stay. Let’s just say it was “vintage.” The tchotchke show was whatever; same stuff, different packaging. The hotel was very close to K-Town so we spend most of our time there to meet with friends. Pinkberry was there but we didn’t go =(. We did go to Dunkin’ Donuts twice and went to P.J. Clarke’s for the first time. They definitely have good burgers.
We finally went to a museum in NY, The Frick Collection on 70th and 5th Ave. It’s basically a mansion filled with fantastic pieces of art and sculptures. I couldn’t take photos inside but here are some from the outside:

It was amazing inside. It is HUGE and very old, as in “old money.” Very cool.
New York City

Off to New York tonight for a tchotchke convention until Thursday. It’s the final fantastic voyage for the ole’ Civic. Hopefully we’ll make it up and back without any problems. Come this weekend, if all goes well, I’ll be driving a new whip! Finally!
School is O-V-E-R and I’m taking an indefinite break. School is repressive and it’s making me go mad. Fun times to come, I promise.
