Brother From Another Planet
My favorite XM Radio program is Zoltar Subterranean which aired on weekend afternoons on channel 82 (now 80). But Zoltar hasn’t been on since Sirius and XM integrated their programming. He deejays trance music and it’s so good. I miss it! Luckily I found his playlist and podcast online! I wish I could blast this music in the gym!
Movies
Scumdog Millionhairs! haha (aka Rod Blagojevich) I saw the movie last weekend and it was the BEST PICTURE hands down. Definitely a must see. The slum kids reminded me of the movie Tsotsi. Everything about it was great and I loved the music in it too. I still have to see Revolutionary Road and The Reader.
Other movies I’ve seen recently: The U.S. vs. John Lennon (good), Balls Out (horrendous, very raunchy, don’t watch it), and Burn After Reading (Coen brothers movie based in DC, what happens when idiots try to be gangsters).
Workout
Fitness Journal: I’ve logged in 34 miles so far and today is day 34 of 2009. My goal is to average a mile a day for 365 days. I count my hour step class as two miles and any miles logged in on a different machine other than the treadmill counts as half (i.e. 4 miles on the elliptical = 2 miles toward my goal). I’m averaging 14 min/mile and last night I weighed in at 122.0. After a month my body is responding but I haven’t really changed my diet at all. In fact, I’ve eaten at Honey Pig twice this month, had KFC during the Super Bowl, ate at CiCi’s the night before that, and I still indulge in a beer or glass of wine here and there. If I cut that all out I’m sure I would be under 120 by now. My diet is probably not going to change in February either since my birthday is coming up and I’m making my annual pilgrimage to NYC to feast on all the delectable deliciousness the city has to offer. I rationalize this by telling myself that I need the extra insulation during the cold months so I’ll change my diet when the weather gets warmer. But working out does make me eat less and now I’m keeping a food journal to document my fatgirl tendancies.

Fitness Journal
I walked/ran a little over two miles on Monday before my step class for about 35 minutes. Yesterday I did three miles in 50 minutes. My left calf was killing me all week. I just found out it was because my shoe was tied too tight! At one point I couldn’t feel my pinky toe.
I like doing walking/running intervals rather than jogging at a steady pace continuously. Maybe it’s because I’m too out of shape to jog continuously! The sucky thing is I haven’t lost any weight. I can feel my blubber firming up so maybe I have to build some muscle first then burn the excess fat. I’ve heard that changing my diet will drop the pounds. My last weigh in was 123.6 lbs. I want to go the Crescent Trail but it’s too cold outside. I was thinking about trying a 5K this spring or fall. We’ll see…
Clusterf*ck to the Poor House: Jurrious Edition
I just finished reading this and now I know for sure getting a new job is going to be pretty much impossible these days (unless I want to wash dishes or sell buttons). One percent chance of landing an interview? Sounds about right. I’ve half-heartedly sent out a handful of resumes and got one call back. I think only because I basically copied and pasted the job listing and put an “I have” or “I am” in front of every qualification they required for my cover letter. Finding a job is like finding a boy/girl friend. You find one when you least expect it and the one you’re least attracted to is the one that’s most interested, that is, until you find ”the One”. However, the call-back was a dud. Apparently I am a flight risk because I am from PA and I got the feeling they didn’t want to take a chance on me in case I move back there one day. And this is after I said, “I have lived in the DC area for eight years and do not plan to move in the near future.” The last person to hold the position re-located so I guess they didn’t want it to happen again. Whatever. I already work for one paranoid boss; I don’t want to work for another. But I did take Penn State off my resume. Who knew it would be a liability?
Well this non-native DeeCee’an is staying far away from DC this weekend. A part of me wishes I would get laid off so I can go backpacking in Europe while getting unemployment checks…. Is that wrong?
